Education: Dr. Melissa Shipley is a fellowship-trained specialist in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus. She obtained her Bachelor of Science at The College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, with a double major in Biology and Psychology. She received her Doctor of Medicine at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she was designated as the school’s first President’s Merit Scholar and was selected as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. She completed her Ophthalmology residency at the University of Florida. Her fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus was at the Storm Eye Institute at the Medical University of South Carolina, where she trained with a number of experts in the field.

American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and StrabismusProfessional: Dr. Shipley is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American Association of Pediatrics. She has lectured and presented research in her field at several recent national meetings. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Special Interests: Dr. Shipley offers comprehensive pediatric eye care including the medical and surgical treatment of lazy eye/amblyopia, ocular misalignment/strabismus in children and adults, blocked tear ducts, pediatric eyelid disorders, pediatric cataracts, and pediatric glaucoma. She provides eyelid surgery for adults, including repair of droopy eyelid skin. Dr. Shipley also treats adults for various eye diseases and injuries.

Personal Background: In her free time, Dr. Shipley enjoys traveling with her husband. They recently traveled to Guatemala for a medical mission where Dr. Shipley performed eye surgery on children with no access to medical care.
