COVID-19 Response

 

Dear Patient,

As a valued member of the Metrolina Eye Associates patient community, we appreciate the trust you place in us and want to inform you about how we are addressing the coronavirus (COVID-19) circumstances. The purpose of this letter is to notify you of protocols in place during our transition into reopening offices and expanding patient care services. Tremendous measures have been implemented and continue to expand in efforts to ensure that we are keeping all of our patients and staff as safe as possible. This is our highest priority.

Please know that our offices are following all recommended guidelines from public health authorities, including best practices for hygiene, infection control and medical professional team health. We feel confident in our ability to safely see patients and provide comprehensive eye care reflective of the standard that you have come to expect and deserve.

Therefore, at the recommendation of CDC and AAO, we will be taking patients’ temperatures before entry into common patient care areas. All patients are required to wear a cloth or surgical face mask when in our clinic. All visitors are requested to please wait in their cars. In addition, a two-step screening process will take place with all scheduled patients. The following questions are included in the screening processes:

  • Have you or anyone that you’ve been exposed to in the past 2 weeks traveled?
  • Have you been in contact with or exposed to anyone who tested positive for the coronavirus?
  • Do you, or anyone that you’re exposed to, have fever, body aches, respiratory symptoms such as cough or shortness of breath, loss of sense of smell or taste?Should the answer be yes to any of these questions, in-office care is redirected to a virtual/telehealth visit.

Our staff will be in contact with you regarding your upcoming appointment as the scheduled date approaches.

Cleaning protocols are in place for all departments located in our offices. Deep cleaning of exam rooms, testing areas, and all testing equipment takes place after every patient. Common areas such as waiting rooms, front desk areas and entryways are cleaned every hour if not more frequently.

In addition, we have the necessary supply of personal protective equipment for staff and patients. Protective barriers are in place for locations where close patient contact occurs as well.

During this period we are also experiencing an increased number of phone calls due to increased patient questions and our two-step screening process. When you call we are doing all we can to answer your call directly. If you do reach our voice mail system, please do leave a message. We will call back usually within 24 hours.
