
Sunny A. Bhathela, OD
Education
Dr. Sunny Bhathela is a North Carolina native who brings extensive clinical training and a patient-first philosophy to Metrolina Eye Associates. He earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry, with a minor in Genetics, from North Carolina State University, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He went on to complete his Doctor of Optometry degree at the State University of New York College of Optometry.
Professional
Dr. Bhathela spent several years serving the underrepresented community of the South Bronx, where he provided comprehensive medical eye care and gained strong experience in managing ocular diseases such as glaucoma, diabetic and hypertensive retinopathy, macular degeneration, and dry eye disease. In addition, he is highly skilled in refractive error correction through glasses and contact lenses, with a focus on holistic eye health management for patients ages 10 and older.
Special Interests
He is the recipient of the Commitment to Community Service Award from the Optometric Center of New York and was elected Vice President of his class, where he organized academic and social initiatives that strengthened both student life and the broader optometric community.
Personal
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Bhathela is an avid watch designer, aquascaper, and collects vinyl records – creative pursuits that reflect his attention to detail and love of craftsmanship.
